Ms. Veney from Memphis TN is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need relevant and exciting books they can relate to instead of outdated and obsolete chapter books. 1989! That is the average date of fiction books in our library!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are voracious readers! They eagerly enter the library looking for that just right book. My students come from 86% poverty level and depend on our school library to provide most of their reading material. Our yearly budget is far too small to update our collection.
My students need updated reading choices!
My readers would like new and notable fiction as well as series such as Dog Man, I Survived, The Last Kids on Earth, Big Nate, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, I Funny, Dork Diaries, Percy Jackson, Stick Dog and more!
My students come into the library on their own time, in addition to library classes, to search for the few new books that we own. If the new books are out, students will circulate books that are outdated and irrelevant because they need reading material and we just don't have enough money to replace the older books.
I am new to the school, and have never seen an older and sadder collection before, but nor have I seen such committed readers!
My students are constantly asking for newer series and with this project, I can begin to make their reading dreams come true.
The books from this project will be in constant circulation and go a long way to provide many enjoyable hours of reading for my library students. The books requested are from Amazon and include library binding if possible, for more durability, as they will constantly be in someone's hands! Most of my students read several chapter books a week and this donation will begin to create a vibrant and updated school library.
With these new books, my library students will have a better selection of relevant and newer reading material.
The teachers at my new school are invested in the choices my students make in library class. Students and teachers work hard to improve reading skills, but students are sometimes discouraged with the book choices in the library.
With the fulfillment of this grant, my students will have a wider selection of literature. I Survived, Big Nate, I Funny, Dog Man, and new and notable fiction are books that my students need in our library!
