As so often happens on such shows as Bewitched, tasks are completed with a twitch of a nose. Toys dance into place, clothes fold themselves and are put away, wrinkled papers are magically restored. Unfortunately, instruction in the elementary grades takes a bit longer and when you have little help at home it takes even longer.
I have been using a Leap Pad for my students to take home to have "someone" to read to them. The Leap Pad is great and has really helped my students but it limits what can be read to them. Having the opportunity to be read to is an important tool for beginning readers. It helps them develop their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. I would like to offer personal CD players along with books and CD to further this read at home experience.
I have already begun to purchase some books on CD but it is a slow and costly endeavor. I would like your help in jump starting this project. This project would enable me to help 3 more students a night. The opportunity for many of these children to be able to have such an item or even to be read to would be priceless. It would be such a spectacular donation that would help countless children improve their reading skills when it is most important..the beginning of their reading instruction.
