Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, determined, and love challenges! They are from a low income area where supplies are limited and hard to come by. My students with disabilities come from a high poverty neighborhood in NYC. We would appreciate any funding that you are willing to donate so that my students can learn with the most available resources. What I most love about my students, is that although they are in 5th grade, and their academic level is on 1st and 2nd grade level, they don't quit!!! They come everyday to class with a smile, ready to learn and face their challenges. Your support is greatly needed, as Success for a special education class is dependent on a variety of tools. For example, organizational supplies, educational games for reading and math, electronic devices and other supplies that make it possible for them to succeed and manage their learning better. We would really appreciate your help.
My Project
“Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.” Flexible seating will allow my students to choose where they work and with whom. It will also allow them to change their location and positions as needed. With the flexible seatings we will get, I’m hoping that it will stimulate their sense of touch. This stimulation can help my amazing and wonderful students to focus and process information better.
My students will feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.
During independent work times, for example, they can choose a location in the classroom that works for them. I want to make sure my students feel comfortable in their classroom - my goal is to make the classroom their second home - a place where they feel safe, organized and where they know that they matter.
Making sure my students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
