My students range in age from 5 to 7 years old. They are all very excited about learning! I try and provide a classroom that meets the needs of every student by allowing them to explore the world through a wide range of activities. I meet with small groups multiple times per week, during small group instruction I can provide more individualized instruction to address each students' individualized needs.
My students learn best when they're fully engaged in instruction and can participate immediately.
Small group instruction is important to address the needs of students, builds close relationships and provides the teacher with specific guidelines for what to teach next. Small group instruction supports the instruction that was provided during whole group.
My Project
My students use whiteboards every day to solve math problems, practice writing letters and sentences and record modeled strategies. Portable whiteboards are great for whole group instruction when students meet on the rug. However, using them during small group instruction they get in the way of student's academic learning while sitting at a small table with me. While at the small table there is nowhere to put the whiteboards when we are not using them and students get distracted by wanting to draw or doodle on them while I am giving instruction. When it is time to use the whiteboards students are bumping elbows which causes distraction and frustration. By having a dry erase table to use students will have a spot readily available to show and practice their work. They will also then have a clean spot to read books or do paper-pencil assignments.
By donating to our project, you will not only help improve student attention and focus, but you will also help academic engagement.
Students will be able to immediately demonstrate what they have learned and I will be able to quickly address individual student needs. These two things will help prepare every student for success throughout the school year.
