My students come to school every day excited to learn. They are smart, curious, creative, and hardworking. They love to read, love to explore, and love to learn new things.
We are a high performing, Title 1 Elementary School in Nevada, and many of my students do not have access to educational materials or preschool prior to beginning kindergarten.
Our goal is to have students reading, writing, adding, and subtracting by the time they leave kindergarten. As their teacher, my goal is to provide my students with the love, support, knowledge, and resources they need to be successful.
My Project
Our English Language Arts curriculum is full of wonderful big books with beautiful pictures and text. Shared reading, read a louds, and big book readings are a huge part of our daily literacy instruction. My students need a big book center stand to be able to see the big books from where they sit on the carpet. Having this big book center stand will be a huge help to my students and is also a wonderful storage space for all of our big books.
This big book center stand will help my students have easy access to the reading material not only while I'm reading it to them during whole group instruction but also for when they want to do some reading on their own.
Many of these new books teach students about the world around them, how to be great students and members of the community, and how to accept the differences we may see in others. With this big book display, we can easily focus on the daily goal, the tracking of print, identifying letters and words, and easily viewing the beautiful pictures found in so many big books! This big book display will set the stage for early literacy development, as well as teaching the students to engage and discuss topics such as tolerance. The students will use this each and every day, building upon skills and leaving Kindergarten as great, confident readers ready to make a difference in this world!
