Although our school is a Title I school composed of over 50% of low-income families, my students do not allow this to limit their education. If anything, they are proving to this world that they control the future of their own knowledge and success.
My students bring to the classroom a variety of life experiences which has already begun enriching the learning environment within the classroom community.
Our classroom this year is comprised of much cultural diversity and I intend for this to be a rewarding year where each and every student learns together and from each other.
My Project
Our state requires 90 minutes of uninterrupted reading per school day. During this time, I pull students into small groups of 5 to 6 students with myself at a kidney shaped table. I also pull small groups during math. It is difficult to fit six school chairs at this table comfortably, so I purchased metal stools. During this 30 minutes of intensive learning, students wobble, lean and move around on the stools which is dangerous and distracting. My students need safer and less distracting seating.
Active learning stools will allow me to focus on the students and learning and not safety and attention.
