Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In the heart of Washington, DC my students love Math class! I work with middle and upper elementary grade levels. The students thrive when learning new content and ideas! Our school is very diverse and we are a Dual Language school. We share and learn in multiple languages.
A language we all share is the language of math.
This year the students are learning a lot about different mindsets. We discuss differences between the growth and fixed mindsets. Listening and observing the students try their best to develop a growth mindset is incredibly inspiring. Our learning community is working individually and together to become better people and this creates the best environment for life long learning.
My Project
Students continuously struggle with identifying all of the multiplication facts. Beginning in third grade, students are introduced to the operation of multiplication. I have tried multiple strategies, games and visuals to help support our learners. When I came across the Math Bands in an online site, I couldn't believe my eyes. What an easy way for students to practice their multiplication facts!
Wearing the Math Bands on a daily basis will have a tremendous impact on students' experience with more advanced mathematical concepts.
These Math Bands will enrich our Math instruction as students can just look at the band for support in multiplication as they tackle more advanced problems. Thanks to my students' perseverance and love for learning, along with the Math Bands, I can't wait to see students take off in their Math journey.
