I provide language therapy and communication intervention within a self-contained Autism Communication and Social Skills public Pre-K program. I provide push in Language Therapy services within four classrooms and have the opportunity to work closely and collaborate with my student’s team of classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents.
Every child deserves the opportunity to communicate, expand their language, and show the world how wonderfully individual and unique they are.
My students are primarily non-verbal and emerging verbal, and we work every day to improve their ability to communicate. These wonderful students learn through sensory and hands-on experiences, and many demonstrate their knowledge through augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
Learning through play is an exciting way to develop sensory integration, language, social, fine and gross motor skills. As preschoolers, my students have a lot of skills that they need to learn to be able to catch up to their peers and prepare for kindergarten. I want to provide my students with supports in their sensory room so that they can continue to develop necessary skills in a fun, imaginative and relaxing manner. My students spend large portions of their day attending focusing on different therapies (both at school and after school) and their academic lessons - it is a great treat for them when we can hide important lessons on skills to promote their developmental growth in fun imaginative play.
Tools that develop imaginative play and encourage children to engage with their environment are critical for students with Autism and other developmental delays.
The fusion play tiles and light projector will develop create an environment that will take them out of the classroom and into the world of their imagination. These tiles are filled with a fluid so that when you step on them the designs will literally change with every step they take. They are perfect to work on sensory integration and to see the cause and effect of how they can control and change their environment. The pirate wheels will address motor coordination while also allowing them to take the drivers seat of their imagination.
If you have ever met a preschooler, you know their love of ball pits. If you have ever seen them in the ball pit then you also understand the need for crush resistant balls. Our current ball pit would benefit from an influx of balls to replace the ones that have been thoroughly enjoyed but have reached the end of their life.
