Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As sophomores, students are being given their first real taste of autonomy. It is up to them to keep themselves organized and prepared for what the day has in store for them. However, they are still learning. They need support to get them to a place where they can do everything on their own.
Giving them resources, but letting them use said resources on their own time, at their own discretion is the best way to move them from dependent freshmen to independent juniors and seniors.
My Project
Being an adult is hard. Staying organized, keeping track of things, taking care of responsibilities are all skills that we must use in our daily adult lives; but we aren't born knowing these things. We have to learn them ourselves.
If we provide proper support and encouragement while teenagers are learning these skills their transition into adulthood will be easier, less stressful, and much more successful.
Part of my class is keeping an organized binder where students keep notes, foldables, bellwork, handouts, homework, essays, and more. They are in charge of their binder. We are a high-poverty school and most of my students don't have access to tools which will help them achieve their organizational goals. By providing them this support, they can develop their skills so they can be more successful adults and citizens.
