I have 26 first and second grade students in my classroom. They live in a low socioeconomic neighborhood and all qualify for free and reduced lunch. A lot of my students are in foster care or are being raised by grandparents. Some have been exposed to life situations they should never see or experience as a child. School is a safe place for them. I make sure they are cared for and loved.
Building positive relationships is key.
"In case no one has told you lately, you are amazing, strong, brave, wonderful, kind, loved and worthy .There is no one like you. The world needs you." If kids believe in themselves and know you believe in them daily success will begin to occur. Once you build that trust and bond then the academics will come as well as problem solving skills and friendship building.
Our kids lack real life experiences. They do not have opportunities to get out and experience the world outside their neighborhood or classroom. With classroom funding being cut, we now have no monies for extra things. We cannot fund field trips or buy extras things to enhance the curriculum.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning. When they have choices, they are invested in what they are working on in a space that is comfortable for them to excel. During independent reading time the students choose to sit at other peoples tables or under the desks to read. When provided with new seating opportunities, my students are highly engaged in their reading, making them more successful students.
The products I have selected, will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make learning more efficient and fun.
My students are far more engaged and motivated in their reading when given different choices for making the learning process happen.
I've seen the benefits of flexible seating choices with students academic growth. I am hopeful we will be able to grow even more.
