Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our entire school is required to carry a 3" binder all day. No backpacks are allowed, only their All Day Binder. It's been wonderful, except for one thing: no one has invented the perfect binder yet!! Our binders break constantly and we prefer to duct tape our binders instead of buying new ones!
We are an AVID and IB school that requires a lot of organization in order to get our classwork completed and perfected.
We are constantly working on becoming better organizers and find it hard to do with broken binders! Having duct tape at our fingertips will make keeping our only organization tool more sturdy.
My students are enrolled in AVID- Advancement Via Individual Determination. They are driven to succeed, even when they face obstacles most of us never have had to even think about. My students are on a path to college and I want them to be prepared and organized as they head into high school. 90% of my students are low-income and live on welfare. They are excellent students who need your help!
My Project
Since we have no backpack or lockers to keep our things organized, we count on our binders. It's our only tool for all of our work, planner, homework and projects. Therefore, we need to keep our binders in excellent shape. Duct tape is our savior on so many occasions, but it is expensive and the fun colors and designs are even more so. Buying new binders is even more expensive, so we count on duct tape to carry us through.
Saving our binders from the toil of everyday use can easily be remedied by using duct tape to make them super strong and able to hold up to middle school!
My students are proud of their binders, and when it looks cool and decorated, no one needs to know that they are held together by duct tape!
