This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are middle school students in grades 6-8 who are learning to discover a passion for reading. Ninety-seven percent of my students receive SNAP benefits and come from a low socioeconomic environment. My students have been introduced to many fantastic authors that they can relate to and I want to enhance their little light and help it shine brighter.
My students are very vocal about issues they face in their community.
I believe reading will be an opportunity for my children to escape, if only for a while.
My Project
Choices magazines will provide them with examples of positive choices teenagers around the world have made to enhance their academic achievements. The Choices magazines will support vocabulary usage in context and the articles are current and relevant.
"The Choices" Magazines will make a difference in my students' learning because they will have the opportunity to read about choices that teenagers face in their daily lives.
Students will use these choices as exemplars of perseverance. Choices magazines will support students as they collaboratively discuss articles that tap into the social emotional learning.
Students will enjoy the flexible seating as they read as well as using flexible seating to support students' different learning styles.
