As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty Title I school, my students are faced with challenges every day, both in and out of the classroom. Regardless of the many challenges they face, I am looking to instill pride in their learning as well as thinking about their future as 21st century citizens.
My students are creative, clever and technology-based learners!
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Our school, as a whole, is receiving free and reduced-price lunch based on the majority of our socioeconomic status.
These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academics.
My Project
My classroom was recently lucky enough to become one-to-one. Each one of my students has a laptop! This has been a fantastic addition to my classroom. However, the track pad can be a bit more tricky to use than a mouse. Especially when most of our testing (classroom and state testing) is done online.
The wireless mouses would allow my students to be able to not only manipulate for their testing better, but also help them with the daily actives that we do in the classroom.
We play a variety of educational games (kahoots, quizziz, & Gimkits, etc...), create writing assignments, and completing daily assignments online. The mouses would be a tremendous in helping in our fifth graders becoming more versed in technology and independent learners.
