My Students

Our school serves a diverse population of students in a rural area. More than half of our students come from low-income households, and 100% of our students are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch. Our school is a Lighthouse School where the 7 Habits are practiced and every student is afforded the opportunity to be a leader!

We are always seeking ways to include our special needs students and our English Language Learners in activities with students in the general education setting.

One way that we hope to do this is with a whole school book reading project and "Wishing Ceremony" to be held later in the fall.

My Project

The multiple copies of Wishtree by Katherine Applegate will allow students at each grade level access to the book. Teachers will have the opportunity to use it as a read aloud to their classes. Our plan is to have all students on campus participate.

Through this project, it is our hope that all of our students will come to know that there is a special kind of power in being able to "stand tall and reach deep".

Once our students have read the book, they and members of our community will participate in a Wishing Ceremony by writing their wish on a ribbon to hang from one of the beautiful live oak trees on our campus.
