This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school and classroom is the "happy place" for many of my students. Eighty to ninety percent of my students live in poverty and most are second generation immigrants. Many of my students have difficult home lives. At my school and in my classroom race, culture and religion don't matter. My students are truly "color blind." Since my school is in a high crime area, it is my job as their teacher to create an environment where my students feel safe, comfortable, loved, and important.

My Project

In our classroom, there are no desks! I provide my student's several seating options. The classroom has a relaxed "coffee house" or "college union" feel. I believe that students learn best when they are happy, safe, and comfortable. It is my job as a teacher to create that environment. I am constantly asking them what they want and need for our classroom because it is their classroom. They all would love to have wobble chairs. As we approach testing time, wobble chairs will help greatly with those students with nervous energy. Wobble chairs allow students to move while staying seated and not disrupting others. These chairs would be a great addition to our classroom.
