Help me give my students watercolor paint sets, watercolor paper, and paintbrushes!
HES is a small school with a BIG heart located in New Jersey's capital city of Trenton. Our 100 year old building previously only served grades K-1, but this year it became a K-5 school. Due to this change, our resources are stretched very thin. We have limited academic resources school wide and extremely limited basic art supplies.
My school is considered to be a 100% free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch school, which means that my students come from poverty.
Despite these restrictions, our students are so eager to learn and LOVE to create. Please help to give my students the art supplies needed to reach their full potential!
Recently, many of our art projects have involved using watercolor paints. This art material is so wonderful for my entire student population, ranging from our young kindergartners to our energetic fifth graders. We absolutely love using watercolor paints for several reasons: the convenience of the compact trays, mixing is made easy, and there is a wide variety of colors. As a traveling art teacher with no art room, limited storage space on my art cart, and no sinks for rinsing brushes and cleaning spills, watercolor paint has been the perfect medium for me! We still get the fun of painting, with the quick and easy cleanup of just snapping the trays closed and emptying our water cups into a jug.
Unfortunately, the watercolor supply has run dry after just a few weeks of using the trays I inherited from the last art teacher.
We were just getting started with our watercolor projects when the paints started withering away. The possibilities of this artistic medium are endless, and my students deserve the opportunity to keep exploring. In addition to all new paint sets, I am requesting watercolor paper to properly show off our beautiful creations with paper that won't rip or warp easily, new paintbrushes that can tackle larger sections at a time to ease the frustration of our younger and more impatient learners, and oil pastels so students can learn the magic of an oil resist painting, which doubles as a science lesson! With your help, my students will be able to make amazing creations to continue where we left off with watercolor paint.
