Help me give my students tool kits and cooking materials that will help them become more successful in their academic endeavors, as well as attain life skills that can be immediately applied to life outside of the classroom.
Our high school is a credit recovery school in the Vail School District. We are the only alternative high school in the state of Arizona to hold the AEF A+ distinction. Our students are beyond amazing and strive to successfully earn their high school diplomas after overcoming a multitude of obstacles.
This school has created a family culture that not only enhances school and academics but also promotes student emotional, behavioral, and social well-being.
We work with the child as a whole person. We obviously provide strong academics, with constant reteaching and enrichment to support the rigorous Arizona State Standards and reach out to our community to help provide the students with opportunities to be stable and highly successful emotionally, behaviorally and socially.
Our high school provides students with the "second" chance to obtain a high school diploma. We work with them after they weren't successful in other environments. Overall, this school is indeed a wonderful place in which everyone that becomes part of us remains a scorpion for life!
My Project
The materials that we are asking for will directly impact our students. We are hoping that by purchasing various manipulatives and hands on activities/items, the students will be able to identify the necessity of as well as application of math, and all other subjects, in the real world and apply it in a more effective manner.
We feel it is vital to be able to educate the child as a whole, thus enforcing the importance of being life long learners.
This would include purchasing items that will help them become functional people in society as well as self sufficient in meeting their own needs. We would like to be able to offer classes that would teach the students how to cook, sew, do basic home repairs, as well as basic automotive repairs. This is something that our students have been asking for over the years, and this grant will give us an opportunity to purchase the materials to make it happen.
Finally, we also have a small, but mighty campus. We offer amazing courses that would enable the students to explore a variety of fields. By creating a comfortable environment, with chairs and other furniture, it allows the teachers to do the preparation for classes and present the material in a comfortable manner, thus enhancing the educational environment. We also have provided "free phone charging" stations in each classroom. This ultimately gives the students an incentive to "charge" their phones during class, thus encouraging them to not be actively using them during lessons and class time. Having more of these available in each classroom would only enhance the instructional time teachers have while not "fighting" the constant cell phone drama.
