I teach a class of third grade academically gifted students. We learn to do research, write informative reports and publish these reports. The internet is an invaluable resource but our access is severely limited. The computer that I am using to submit this proposal is the only one which is enabled to have internet access and also supports the school system server. I use a projector to demonstrate skills for my 17 students, but they do not have ready availability to practice these skills in the trailer. I am requesting a wireless internet access card for an IBM desktop computer which will double our access, and a color printer for the trailer which will allow students to publish their work upon completion. In the internet, computer-driven world that we live in, students must have learning opportunities which allow them to learn and practice their skills. It is no longer acceptable to be computer illiterate. Once a week in the computer lab does not offer them enough guided practice time!
