Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Instructional Technology for grades K-5. My students are future programmers, engineers, scientists, CEO, developers, etc. Each comes with their own unique perspective of computer science and technology. They come from various backgrounds and have different abilities. I can confidently say that my students come into my lab with the mindset that they can learn anything related to technology whether it is coding, robotics, film editing, or creative ways to present information. We have some off days but most days end with a little computer dance party or some typing karaoke.
When my students enter my lab- I want them to feel that I am doing whatever I can to make them feel safe and supportive.
When they walk into my lab with a smile on their face, excited for my class, I want them to leave with an even bigger smile and a sense of pride at what they accomplished in class. And if they walk into my class and they are struggling, I hope that after some validation and encouragement, they leave with a smile.
My Project
Lab 220 is a hub of information technology learning. I am so lucky to have so many different types of learners coming into my lab. My friends in Room 121 and 106 always know how to make me smile. These programmers with ASD are hard working and love using all our pieces of technology. Sometimes it gets very loud in Lab 220. We are fortunate to have these iPads and sometimes chromebooks but our wired headphones do not work with their cases. Sometimes with 20 iPads going at the same time with various programs, the distraction is too much for my programmers with ASD. I would love for students to feel like Lab 220 is always a safe place to learn.
Please help us upgrade our wireless headphones.
We love our current set, however it is not ideal for individual student learning. We would love to have a set of wireless headphones that do not need a transmitter. These headphones will be able to connect to our iPads via bluetooth. This will allow students more ownership of their learning by not being stuck with one center for four pairs of headphones. Bluetooth wireless headphones will be a game changer for my students with ASD when we are working with iPads and chromebook because the headphones will cancel out the other noise from computers, chromebooks, and iPads and will allow students to focus on their task. This will make it much less overwhelming for my students with ASD
Also having a set of wireless bluetooth headphones will make these much more transportable for when my class needs to be taught on location or if the ASD teachers need to borrow them for their own classroom use.
