My Students
Our students come from many different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Our school is a host site for an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. Many of these students do not have an English speaking parent at home. Additionally, my classroom is an inclusive classroom where students with and without special needs learn together.
Each day brings new and exciting challenges for my students and myself to tackle.
I want these students to have all the tools necessary to be successful when facing these challenges.
My Project
Students love to listen to someone reading to them. Research shows that listening to a fluent reader while following along in the book helps students become better readers. Adding a set of wireless headphones to our listening center will help my students be more comfortable and focused while listening to an audiobook.
Second graders are learning independence, but tangled cords put a kink in things.
Precious time is lost spent untangling headphone cords when they get too close to each other. Sometimes, the closeness required when at the listening center with wired headphones leads to unnecessary frustrations within the group. These wireless headphones would eliminate the wire tangles and would allow my students to sit where they are most comfortable while they are listening to reading.
