Wouldn't you prefer to be able to walk around your room wirelessly while accessing videos, apps, books, and games for your students rather than be tied down to a computer? Me too!
My class s made up of a group of inner city, culturally diverse, and low-income students.
They are enthusiastic learners who put forth their best effort every day, even when things are difficult. My students have multiple challenges, including language impairments and cognitive delays. Most are working at a level that is below their grade level peers, yet I'm always impressed and inspired by their level of effort and perseverance. As a teacher, I'm continually looking for new ways to introduce/apply newly taught skills in a way that makes learning fun and rewarding. We are hoping to acquire an Apple TV and iPad for the room that will allow us to walk around wirelessly while accessing videos, apps, virtual field trips, books, and games that make learning more fun! Additionally, my students will be able to collaborate with each other and share their work cooperatively, which will further develop their interpersonal skills.
My Project
We currently use a computer and projector along with a document camera to incorporate technology into our learning. Unfortunately, this method doesn't allow me to move around to support my students. The Apple TV and iPad will provide a wireless and interactive configuration so that I am able to walk around freely and interact with my class. By bringing Apple TV into our classroom, my students will be able to take virtual field trips (which is so important to my urban students who rarely get to travel with their families), share book reports, research projects via PowerPoint presentations, as well as solve math problems together. The screen saver can also be used as a classroom bulletin board so that when we have visitors such as parents and administrators, the kids work can be displayed to highlight their progress and hard work. The Apple TV and iPad will allow us to create a flexible and cost efficient alternative to Smart Boards which are not available in our school.
With the Apple TV, I can lead a class brainstorm, or walk everyone through a presentation.
My students can also connect with Apple TV, giving them the chance to share projects and other work on the big screen. This means that anyone in the class can present or share their work which makes them all stars! My 21st Century learners and future leaders will be able to take virtual field trips to experience all corners of the globe, which builds background knowledge and an understanding of our world.
