My students need healthy Clif Bar snacks, Kleenex tissues, Lysol disinfecting wipes, and Lysol disinfecting spray to stay healthy and well in the classroom!
Our high school is quite diverse, with over 50 languages spoken by families. About 1-in-2 students is an English Language Learner, developing their language skills as they learn course content. Nearly 3/4 of the families in our working-class community (74%) are low-income. Despite all the factors that could hold these students back, our campus keeps seeing students graduate!
In the face of significant life challenges, my students persevere in order to excel.
Despite poverty, uninvolved families, jobs to pay bills, homelessness, recovery from drugs or alcohol, gaps in learning, or lack of transportation, students at our alternative school continue to push through barriers to change their lives!
Classes meet for 86-minute periods, which allows lots of time to interact with materials in a variety of ways. However, the resources we have aren't always what's needed to engage high-level thinking for that entire time.
My goal is to do whatever I can to ensure my students are engaged and actively learning throughout the school day and beyond!
My Project
The Lysol wipes and air spray will help to get rid of all the germs that are spread this time of year, and help my students to stay well! Keeping the classroom clean can keep them remain healthy and in school.
These supplies will ensure my students and healthy, well, and ready to learn!
I often supplies snacks for hungry students out of my own pocket, but I am limited in what I'm able to provide. The Kleenex tissues and sanitizer will help when students are starting to feel crummy.
Other supplies like glue sticks and scissors will ensure everyone can complete tasks at the same time, without having to take turns and use up class time. These will help all my students to be more productive in class.
