Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Eighty-five percent of students in my K-8 school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. I teach in an Inclusion Kindergarten classroom, meaning that there is a population of children within the room with documented learning or behavioral disabilities. There are 25 children in my classroom, 18 boys and 7 girls. Many of the children are first generation Americans, and English is not the primary language spoken at home; for many of the children their main exposure to the English language comes in my classroom.
My Project
We tried to trap the leprechaun this year and I think he sabotaged all of our dry erase markers. We use them so frequently throughout the day; for practicing writing words, for making addition and subtraction equations, for making tally marks, for showing me their answers to questions that I ask aloud to the whole class, it's inevitable that they will be used up, dried out, and caps will go missing, it's no wonder we go through them like water. The funding of this project will get us through until at least June and will allow us to continue getting ready for first grade.
