My Project

Outside play of running, jumping, swinging and climbing is so important for students to release energy and regulate their sensory system. In the winter when we have very cold days or when it's raining, students do not get an opportunity for these activities because we can't access our wonderful playground.

My project is to help my students get the sensory input they need year-round.

When these needs are not met, these students are climbing on tables, falling out a chairs, and not able to focus.

I am requesting materials to help the students when we don't get a break from in the classroom, to be able to get their sensory needs met and will be able to focus and decrease behaviors that could be unsafe for the child. The swing pod will be a great way for the students to be able to have a quiet space to block out all distractions and get the vestibular sensory input. The mats will help give proprioception input to the students by allowing a safe place to crawl, roll and jump. The spinning chair will give the sensory input in vestibular and proprioception to calm the student and allow them to focus in the classroom.
