My transitional kindergarten students love exploring the world through hands-on experiences. It is a primary goal to provide students with resources to actively engage and equip students with 21st-century science skills. Twenty percent of our students are English language learners and approximately forty percent of our population receives free or reduced lunch.
This DonorsChoose.org project will provide 32 students with materials that provide hands-on exploration with science and mathematical concepts while building critical thinking and social-emotional skills.
I am thoughtful of selecting items that also build a foundation for Next Generation Science and Engineering Standards to close the knowledge gap.
My Project
Young children learn best when they are engaged in hands-on learning that is thematic and built on prior knowledge and experience. Investigations and experiments on the water cycle, water conservation, and waters changing states drive our winter theme! Children will learn about how freshwater is collected in their communities and how other communities collect water worldwide.
Hands-on experiences are essential tools to engage young children while building academic and scientific vocabulary.
Water experimental tools and materials were selected to achieve engagement and create a foundational understanding of physics and earth science.
The project includes printer ink, laminating, and velcro to print up math and literacy hands-on games in vivid color. Materials like biodegradable packing material and cotton balls will engage children as they undertake art and hand-on games.
