Winning Writers At Work

My students need writing resources such as 80 journals, 20 word bank books, 6 dictionaries, and 3 thesauruses to make them become better writers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a writing teacher for grades 1, 2, and 3. I teach in a low income city school where the students need a lot of support and guidance. In addition to regular education students, I teach many special education students too. Our funds are very limited and I need to supplement our materials throughout the school year.

This will be an exciting school year in which I will be piloting a new writing program for lst, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. I was chosen to teach this program because I love to bring out the creativity that comes out in writing. However, many of my students don't get to show me their true potential because of lack of monies and supplies that we desperately need. If we had the resources needed to make them better writers, they would be able to show so much success. My children thrive on being successful in school as many live in very difficult households. As they succeed with different writing units, we will present their finished products to other classrooms and their parents. What a joy it will be!

To become better writers, my children need to practice writing daily. With the journals, dictionaries, and word books that I am requesting they will have the opportunity to become fluent and creative writers.

By receiving the resources that I requested, I know that my students will become the writers that they need to be in their future lives. Having the materials to look up new words, learning to spell correctly, and having the opportunity to express their creativity will give them the confidence that they lack. Your help in providing these resources is needed now so that my students can begin the school year in a classroom that is filled with resources that are available to their creative, writing hands.
