My students will be a mixed group of different nationalities, as well as developmental, social, and educational levels. Over 85% of the student population is comprised of minorities; over 55% of those students identify as Hispanic. Although the students may come from different backgrounds and countries, we will all meet on the common ground of exploration.
Many of my students will be open books; having their first experiences this year with school as well as discovery.
My students will be energetic bunch who love to move around. Their interests include exploring new books and things, as well as, having new experiences. They will be hands-on learners but also discovering information through a book. We will look for ways to connect what we learn in books to our daily lives.
The students will explore science through diving into the text. We will read and discuss with our fellow grade level classmates about our discoveries. We will make predictions and investigations with the text. These readers will be used during Science/Social Studies time, in Read Alouds, and during independent reading. We will develop our scientific vocabulary by exploring the text to make predictions, investigations, and theories as true scientists.
We will use the knowledge we glean from our readers to create evidence of our discoveries such as experiments, graphs, diagrams, etc.
We will work together and independently to be detectives and scientist. We will put on our magnifying glasses to make connections from the text to ourselves and the world around us. We also will practice reading, telling about the main idea or topic of the text, and sharing our findings with others. We work on forming complete thoughts to express our excitement and enthusiasm about we learn.
