When I think of my lovely students, I think of the past two years and what they have been through with COVID-19. They are very understanding and flexible as we transition between online and in-person learning. As a school, we focus on outdoor education and music. We take a weekly hike, often in the lovely snow, and I get to experience the kindnesses my students show to each other. The hill we climb can be challenging, and our students help each other and laugh as we all work to make it up the hill. We hear music in our school from the moment the students arrive and throughout the day as students practice their instructions. I feel fortunate to be teaching at this school and watch my students grow.
My Project
My students are excited each week when we have art in our classroom. We are concentrating on acts of kindness this year. We have completed the wings of kindness bulletin board; each student has written kindnesses they notice of other students. I am finding that my students have been online off and on for the past two years and need some practice showing kindness to others. I notice the art has effectively gotten my students to work together.
Some of my students are finding it difficult to stay in a seat throughout the day; I feel this results from being at home and not be required to keep in your heart during class.
The students will benefit from having some optional seating in my classroom.
