Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Oprah Winfrey said, "The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams." We are a diverse community made up of creative thinkers, curious dreamers, and seekers of wisdom. We make connections, form opinions, and fill our hearts with the love of learning, while accepting each other's own uniqueness. We are a largely Hispanic, rural, low-income population with many English as a Second Language (ESL) learners.

Our vibrant classroom is a creative, stimulating safe learning space where we contribute to discussions, we write ideas in our journal every day, we accept, respect, and value each other's ideas, and we show compassion.

My Project

Incorporating these equitable books, into my classroom, will help my students develop their own unique identities by learning from these powerful role models. I have specifically chosen these books because they are relevant, authentic, and meaningful. They are all extremely well-written books for young adults with multi-racial families and real-life situations. They engage our hearts as well, teaching humanity.

I am hopeful that I will be able to share these books because I see how necessary it is for my students to see themselves in my class library materials.

These books will help create a learning environment, where students have choice and voice and no barriers to stop their learning journey, building their own positive identity. True passion for reading is the freedom that Frederick Douglass wanted for everyone when he said, "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." I want to give my students this freedom.
