This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students face many challenges at an early age. Our school uses an African centered curriculum to engage and empower our students so they can face life's challenges with the skills they need to succeed.
I want my students to develop a love of reading in our classroom.
Reading can provide students a mirror to see themselves reflected in the pages of a book creating a powerful connection.
Reading can provide students a sliding glass door to enter a new world creating an inspiring curiosity.
My Project
Scholastic News magazines will get my first graders excited to read and learn on grade level, nonfiction information with exciting real-world photos! Using the magazines in class will cover help us cover critical reading, math, science, and social studies standards. Students will receive a magazine EVERY week for 8 months!
My students will be building nonfiction-reading skills while exploring science and social studies concepts to become global thinkers.
This subscription will also give us access to digital issues, teaching guides, learning videos, and text-to-speech audio. I believe learning should also be engaging and most importantly, relevant. The Scholastic News magazines will give my students a window to the world!
