Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school are wonderful. They strive to be the best with limited resources. As a fourth grade special education teacher, I have assessed students in my grade to be at the first-fourth grade reading level. The current materials we have do not provide enough individualized instruction to such a large array of student abilities.
Due to limited funding by the state, my students are learning with limited resources.
These budget cuts make me depend on generous donations in order to build learning opportunities for my students.
My Project
My diverse learner students struggle to decode words and despite the amount of progress they have made this year, they still require a more phonics based approach to reading. Wilson Reading System is successful in teaching students with dyslexia how to read.
My students give forth their most conscientious efforts in class and will finally feel successful in decoding words with Wilson Reading System.
This Orton- Gillingham based intervention will provide my students with the skills they need in order to be successful readers and writers. The Wilson Reading System includes sound cards that present keyword pictures and letters for phonemes, trick word flashcards, a story set of books to read, a fluency kit with a record sheet, and sentence and syllable frames to begin building and reading sentences along with many other beneficial tools to use during word work. By providing my students a phonics based approach to reading that works, my students will become life long learners.
