My students need student read-alongs so that they can enjoy listening to stories on their own and gain the confidence they need to become independent readers.
Imagine a room full of five and six year old boys and girls who love listening to stories! Each day my students have opportunities to listen to stories on cassette at our Listening Center. You could help make a difference by providing materials that will allow them to enjoy more books on CD.

The children in my classroom love to read and listen to stories. Some of my students are not read to at home and only receive exposure to books while they are at school. Books are an important part of our everyday learning and my students are engaged when they are listening to stories!
My Project
I am requesting student read-alongs that will expose my students to quality text. The kit includes sixteen books along with Cd's that narrate each story. My students will be able to independently listen to stories at our Listening Center by following along with each recording. The children will build literacy skills as well as confidence as they work autonomously in the classroom. Hearing a book read on CD helps children see how the words on the page can be fluid and come alive in an expressive way. Read-alongs help children focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides an example of fluent reading. These audio books also give children an important introduction to listening, a skill that young children must master in order to learn to read.
The opportunity to listen to books is essential! The children in my classroom need multiple opportunities each day to listen to books. Will you help us by providing quality books to help us develop literacy skills?
This donation can provide a wonderful opportunity for my students to hear their favorite books read aloud again and again.
The more they listen, the greater the likelihood that they will learn new vocabulary words as well as other literacy skills. Providing more audio books for our listening center will allow my students to listen to stories with their peers. This will create opportunities for playing creatively and acting out parts of the story!
