Help me give my students new materials to develop basic language skills and phonemic awareness. We need a table with bar stools, a tabletop magnetic whiteboard, and pencil sharpener.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Pre-K4 is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning Phoneme segmentation or how to communicate with others in a group setting. My students love to play alphabet games, dance and listen to stories.
Despite some of their circumstances, my students are incredible and work hard at school every day.
Every day, they come in ready and eager to learn. I see potential and greatness in all of my young scholars. I want them to have access to resources to help them achieve what I know they are capable of accomplishing.
I teach in a Title 1 school. Many of my students families cannot afford to have an at home library. I introduce my Pre-K students to literature and reading when they enter my classroom.
My Project
My students are very eager to learn more now that they have alphabet knowledge. Developing a child's phonological awareness is an important part of developing a reader. My students need explicit modeling when blending words (for example c-a-t). I will use the table top easel to model the words we spell during small group time. With the new stools my students will be able to practice their words (CVC/ sight words) while sitting comfortably in our classroom.
With these new materials, my students will be able to practice their early decoding skills while learning to read.
Whether it be CVC words or sight words they will be practicing skills needed so they can learn to read. The new pencil sharpener will allow the students to use a sharpened pencil to practice writing words. It is important for students to know how to blend and segment words so they can develop as a reader.
