Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students have braved their way through a pandemic, remote learning, and some very tough times in America. They are back in school wearing masks and uncertain of the future. However, they are so very excited about working, learning, and being among their peers. Their love for school and their teachers show brightly in their eyes and actions every day!

Many of my students come from an impoverished background, and they have big hopes and dreams of doing great things.

As an educator, mother, and past CPS student who grew up in similar circumstances I want to provide my students with the best quality educational opportunities possible.

My Project

It is common knowledge that access to quality literacy will allow all students opportunities to seek out information, build background knowledge, and explore an in-depth deeper understanding of the world around them. Students will benefit from having a variety of quality novels in their classrooms, and to take home because it will empower students with otherwise limited opportunities and resources to transform their lives, and in turn improve their standard of health. Students with access to quality literacy will gain the knowledge to grow, earn higher incomes, and lead healthier lives.

Access to quality literacy in school and at home will help many of my students dream, set goals, desire careers, and improve their overall quality of life.

Being able to read fluently and comprehend what we read has an impact on the way we think, problem-solve, career progress, and earning potentials. I want to see my students not only flourish in life but also fit into healthy safe environments and social circles outside of their communities. I truly believe that when I am able to provide my students with the skills to effectively communicate, write, and read I am investing in their future.
