Our campus is a non-selective, public high school where nearly 90% of the 600 students are eligible for free/reduced lunch. With longer class periods, a longer school day, and a longer school year, our school provides Chicago students with substantially more instructional time than a traditional public high school. This extra time, combined with a disciplined, consistent school culture, high expectations, and a team of dedicated teachers, results in dramatically improved academic performance. On average, 90% of our scholars matriculate to college compared to only 25% of their peers in other public high schools around the city.
Despite the great success of our school in both graduating students and sending them to college, Illinois and Chicago budget issues have created regular complications for those of us working so hard to improve our athletic programs.
I am going into my seventh year of service at this school located near Humboldt Park, and I can confidently say that I serve some of the most incredible youth that Chicago, Illinois, and the United States has to offer. We simply need help.
After years of not having a consistent outdoor place for our soccer team to practice, we finally have access to some space at a local park; now we just need goals. We've been working hard over the last few years to develop our soccer program. We've been very lucky to build team resources through donations up to this point.
Now that we have a place to practice, our hope is that we can give our players as realistic of a practice as possible which requires a few more resources.
At this point, we have been shooting between cones which is helpful to a point. We'd really like to arm them with a true soccer experience and be able to set up full-size nets each day. Your support is deeply appreciated.
