You have a book report that due in a few days. But what book are you going to read? What is everyone else reading?
My students attend a large urban school district in a lower socio-economic area.
The school is the only place where students come in contact with age and content appropriate materials to read. The problem is helping them to decide what to read. An adult can tell them that this is a great book but until they hear it from a peer they will not believe.
My students need three USB flash drives and two Flip cameras to create Digital Wildcat Book Reviews to share with other students. This activity will require students to read books and write their own one to two minute review (booktalk,) highlighting the book they read in a visual format. This activity will encourage others to read the books. The book reviews will be shown in the cafeteria during lunch to increase interest of other students.
Society is so visual and technical.
Schools and libraries are struggling to keep up and make reading fun. Why not embrace the technology and let students make their own technology based book reports as they use technology to grow in reading skills.
