This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever wanted to check out a book, but couldn't because all the available copies were already out? My students love to read high interest books and we need more to whet their appetites for reading.
My students are in a community that is close to a military base and the students are full of untapped potential.
They have a thirst for knowledge and new types of experiences that make teaching a precious gift. The school attended is about 75% free and reduced lunch and services a variety of students from AIG to special needs.
My Project
These books will play a pivotal role in getting struggling readers and non readers to pick up a book a discover a new world. I will be able to have students that are unable to check out books for various reasons be able to read new materials. I believe my students will learn about others who are in similar situations, make connections with different cultures, and realize that this is just the beginning for being a life long reader and learner.
This project will help me increase the literacy and reading levels for my struggling readers and give my students a reason to enjoy reading.
I will also be able to expose my students to a variety of authors we may not have in our current library.
