My Students

My fifth grade students love to talk and work together on projects and ideas. Their enthusiasm for working in groups is infectious and creates a learning environment that is positive for all levels of students. Combining this positive environment with rigorous math is the goal of this project.

Students in my fifth grade math classes need opportunities to develop math collaboration skills, problem solving, and writing about math in a way that they love!

Working, sharing, writing, and thinking all go hand in hand with preparing math learners for a positive future. Write on!

My Project

Students will be working in pairs and groups using large "group" whiteboards as they collaborate on group challenge problems for math. Assorted colored markers will inable the students to organize their thinking by using a standard color for each part of the thinking process.

As students talk with their peers, and write about their learning, they will develop skills needed not only in math, but in life.

They will begin to understand how to critically view their own work and the work of others. By having a medium in which they can make changes easily, I know my students will increase their problem solving and risk taking in learning.
