This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn and serves Pre-K to 5th grade. The majority of young learners at our New York City school receive free and reduced-price lunch. Our first-grade class is made up of 25 goofy, kind, and bright students who come from mostly bilingual homes.
Not only are the students exciting to be around, they are also some of the most caring, hardworking, and curious first graders who act daily as change-makers, bringing a multicultural lens into the classroom.
As their teacher, I strive every day to motivate my students to achieve their highest potential through music and imagination!
My Project
Please help me and my students study Andy Warhol before visiting the Andy Warhol exhibit at the Whitney Museum in New York City! My students really love art class and I think this will give them a chance to continue exploring the arts, a well known artist, and be exposed to his exhibit for free!
This project will provide each student in my class a copy of Uncle Andy: A Fabulous Visit with Andy Warhol, a children's book written by Andy Warhol's nephew, James about his visits to New York City to learn from his uncle! This will provide my students a chance to share with their friends and family what they have learned and continue to celebrate great artists throughout history!
