I teach in a small town community and many of my students have never had the opportunity to travel far outside their hometown. Reading engaging, exciting books gives them those opportunities for their imaginations to travel to far away places.
They become so invested in the characters of the books that we read together that they start to feel like their best friend.
They cannot wait to hear the next part and "NOO!" is heard on a regular basis when I finish reading for the day. The anticipation for more continues their excitement about books and reading.
Our read aloud time in my classroom is my favorite time of the day because I see my students become excited and so invested with the books and the characters. "The Wild Robot" is a book where the students grow to love Roz and Brightbill and the love that they have for each other and the other animals on the island.
WIth each student having their own copy of the book, it will allow me to use this read aloud in different ways that I never could before.
My students will grow as readers and as people by reading this book about acceptance and friendship.
