Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title I campus where 97% of students come from low socio-economic families. My students live lives that I will never understand, as much as I would like to. They come to school every day with the want, need, and desire to succeed, but their learning is often halted from the baggage and barriers they bring from home each day.
My students have overcome more battles and hardships in their 8 years than most of us have had to overcome in our whole lives.
My students are warriors, they're intelligent, they're kind, they're funny, they care a lot, they brighten my day and they make me a better teacher, person, and friend.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by fostering a love for reading in 3rd grade.
Reading is directly correlated to all subjects; if a student can find a passion for reading it will help them make connections and gain comprehension in all areas at school.
The books I have chosen to add onto my classroom library have relate-able characters like Peter Hatcher in the Fudge Series, allow students to learn about history like in the I Survived series, and have a good laugh like in The Time Warp Trio.
