My students need an in-classroom library geared to their reading level that is both challenging as well as interesting. My students need books and a bookcase.
Our community is a small, rural community that was once a thriving farming and industrial one. Our industrial plant closed and tobacco farming is no longer viable. Nearly 90% of our school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch and there is no money for extra items for learning. Our budget is limited to basic educational needs and every classroom is supplemented by the personal income of the individual teachers. My babies are excited to learn and are creative and enthusiastic .
My Project
Reading is vital for my students and having these materials in the classroom will enable students to read in moments of free time. Going to the library weekly does not provide them enough time to enjoy reading resources and develop a real love for books.
My students need the opportunity to practice their reading skills.
Many do not have a literate adult in the home. This will give them the chance to have assisted reading time.
The choice for hardback books means that they will withstand use for years to come. A bookcase provides an easily accessible and enticing area for learning.
