My students need Early Literacy Learning Centers to help them work on alphabet and writing skills. All of the hands-on materials, books and CDs will help them to learn in different ways.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My wonderful students are a group of four year old little sponges that absorb anything that is thrown their way. For some, the only educational experiences these young minds receive is when they are at school. I want to be able to give my students an engaging learning environment by providing them with the opportunity to be in a classroom setting that allows them to explore through hands-on activities. My classroom is full of bright students who are ready to learn. Due to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, a lot of students were displaced, but they are still eager to come to school, learn and thrive. I have 20 students in my class which also includes ESL (English as a Second Language) students. We are located in the Third Ward area of Houston, Texas that is near downtown Houston. My students come to me with many challenges at an early age. Most of the students are in single family homes, shelters or raised by grandparents. The majority of my students struggle with language and abandonment issues. I strive everyday to give them a safe place to come and learn where they can be happy and healthy.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door. The hands on Literacy Centers will be placed on the shelf for easy access and used during our small group, whole group and workstation time. Students will also be able to use the materials with a partner or individually during this time. We already have baskets and they will be labeled so that they can reach them, work with a partner or individually and place them back into the correct place.
I am so excited about the hands on materials, writing journals and books that will help their minds grow.
These materials will help them with Reading, writing and alphabet recognition.
