Our classroom is truly a learning lab with lots of opportunities for exploration through literacy and math stations as well as play. It is a chance for this diverse population to learn through a variety of experiences.
My students are creative, curious and very lively!
They like to move, they love to read, and they love lots of positive attention. They are a very diverse group in terms of culture, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, and includes students who are on the autism spectrum. Many of them have not had the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I seek to inspire even our earliest learners to learn to love learning so they will continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
Research studies have shown that students' focus and stamina increase when they use Wobble chairs rather than conventional seating in classroom settings. These chairs allow for much needed movement for 5 year old children.
This project would significantly improve my students' attentiveness and focus on learning.
It is especially needed for my autistic students. Kindergarten students in general have a lot of energy! Students are grouped into color squads as they work in math and literacy learning stations on a daily basis. These colorful chairs are a way for them to be able to expend energy yet stay engaged in their learning tasks.
