Help me give my students the movement outlet they need in order to be their best selves. The stability balls are a big hit in our class and I'd like to make sure more students have them.
This project expired on March 5, 2020.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
When asked about my students, the first words out of my mouth are, "My kiddos are amazing!"
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and very different home lives.
Some are more privileged than others, some come from broken homes, one was homeless, and some have experienced events that no child should ever have to endure. Yet, they come to class with a smile on their faces and excitement in their eyes. They light up my life and I couldn't be more fortunate to spend so much of my day with these awesome human beings!
Research has shown that movement enhances brain functions. Movement gets the blood pumping and oxygen to the brain. Both of these attributes positively enhance learning.
In my classroom, I have flexible seating options for some of my students but I'd like to offer it to ALL my students.
Flexible seating, while not traditional, has become a way of teaching that I have embraced as a first year teacher. I jumped into this feet first after doing my research on it.
My classroom is set up so the students have a choice in where they learn and how they learn. We have established expectations and procedures for their use (they created them) and they own this responsibility. If you were to walk into my classroom, you would see some students on the floor in rockers and lap desks, some bouncing on stability balls, some wobbling on wobble stools, and some sitting on pillows. They may be sitting or standing in different ways but they are ALL learning, on task, and engaged.
I funded my class set up on my own as a first year teacher so I was only able to buy so much. I'd like to make sure that every one of my students has a flexible seating option in order to be the best scholars they can. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my classroom and our request.
