Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Early each morning, you can hear four hundred plus voices call out our "Bulldog Beliefs" with a rousing howl at the end! My school is the happiest school I've ever had the fortune to enter. Every day, my students arrive at school with hope for their futures. Our school is a Title I school, which means we have a high percentage of students living in poverty. While poverty brings many hardships, it doesn't taint our attitudes and outlook at our school.
While many of their parents are working multiple jobs to provide for their families, my students frequently care for their younger siblings and cousins.
Despite all the challenges they face, my students are dedicated readers and learners.
My Project
In our reading class, we spend a large portion of our class time independently reading. Most of my students treasure this time when they can escape into a book and go on fantastic journeys. I have a few students who struggle to sit still during this time and because of this, they are less enthusiastic about reading. Fortunately, we’ve been able to have two wobble stools in our classroom and they are constantly in use. We need more wobble stools so that all of my students are able to lose themselves in a book.
My active students are no less passionate about reading than their peers, they simply struggle to stay still for long.
I’m also requesting a few things that make a healthy classroom. Our class has been hit hard with colds and we’re nearly out of facial tissues and hand sanitizer. Printer ink is always in demand and color printed resources are much more engaging than black and white.
