Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Are there times when as an adult you just can't sit still? Imagine being a first grader with that same dilemma. My classroom is filled with 24 enthusiastic first graders. They love to move, even when they are supposed to be still.
Every morning I am greeted by 24 smiling faces and usually some "fun" way of saying good morning.
Some days it is "Bonjour"; other days it could be "Hola"; or as simple as "Good Morning" or "How are you?" They love to have fun with language. Our school is a Title 1 school in the middle of a busy metropolitan area.
Nine of these twenty-four first graders started school in August still being five. And guess what? Five year olds are still wiggly, sitting in their chairs, sitting on the floor, waiting in line and walking in line. Too many times the furniture at school is not very comfortable for these wiggly bodies.
My Project
We are hoping to acquire two Hokki stools to use in the classroom. These rounded bottom stools will let these young bodies sit at a desk or table and still let them wiggle without the risk of falling on the floor or tripping someone walking by.
Some students still need to wiggle but they often disturb others. With these stools, wiggly bottoms can be less disruptive during class.
Help my "young" ready to learn first graders be a bit less wiggly so that learning can happen.
We all need to wiggle now and then. These fun stools will let the wiggles happen with the learning.
