Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in 3 inclusions classrooms as the Special Education teacher in an urban environment. I serve students with a wide range of abilities. We as a school and district work hard to keep our special education students in their least restrictive environment.

I strive to meet each student at their ability level using accommodations and differentiation during my instruction.

Small group work greatly benefits my students. When so many of my students come from homes that are very busy and don't have the resources to help them through the day, I want to make the most out of the time we have together during the school day.

My Project

My students will be allowed an opportunity to choose their seating from a variety of choices. The squishy bottoms will allow a more comfortable seating choice and the wobbly bottoms will allow more motion than a standard chair. The standard chairs that the students have are too tall and don't allow their feet to touch the ground. When their feet can't touch the ground they tend to swing their legs which distracts from their learning.

When completing the required daily intervention the students can benefit from a more comfortable seating option using the laptop chair.

Students will be more successful in completing classroom work when allowed a choice of a seat that will best meet their needs.
