As a teacher in an area of high need, it pains me to see that some of my students worry about the basic essentials of life, that most of us take for granted. Our school has an estimated 98% free and reduced lunch rate. My students are intelligent, loving and caring, but some of them worry about having food, proper clothing, housing, or even someone to love and take care of them. I see children come to school in winter without boots or a warm coat; in shoes without socks; and then there are the students who have to get themselves or a sibling ready for school. It's a lot for their growing minds to have to worry about.
Through a previous project, and generous donors, we received four awesome wobble stools for our classroom. Well, you can imagine with 20 students and only four stools, it’s a daily struggle to figure out who gets to use one (everybody wants a wobble stool, every day!) We also only have 14” stools and second graders come in a variety of sizes, so the 16” stools will help meet the needs of some of my bigger students. My wonderful students are also hard at work on their informational writing. The colored pencils would help motivate them to add some great diagrams and illustrations to their reports!
