This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As an instructional coach in a low-income/high poverty preK-4th urban school, I frequently observe several students facing challenges within the classroom setting. Beyond the many challenges our students face, the staff at my school goes above and beyond what is needed to make sure needs of students are met. One consistent observation made when working with students in classrooms is that many of the students struggle to focus or stay seated during class. We have used several different strategies and calming techniques to help our students be successful; however, one of the most useful and helpful materials we have used with students are "wiggle seats".

My Project

On of the areas our students struggle with the most is being able to focus when seated. We have used many tried and true strategies but the one of the most success is the use of a wiggle seat with our students. The wiggle seat provides a calming effect for students struggling to stay in their seats and focus during instruction. With use of a wiggle seat, students are able to sustain sitting in a chair for a longer period of time and increase their focus allowing for them to be successful with their work, and best of all create a calming experience for students.
